North American Shortwave Pirate / UNID 6925 USB 0155z
« on: December 03, 2009, 0231 UTC »
12/3/09, 6925, 0155 UTC: Very faint music and ID.  Sounded like ID for Channel Z and voice for that op but I forgot to check whether signal was AM (receiver set to USB).  Faded or off by 0200z.

North American Shortwave Pirate / Outhouse Radio 6925.1 USB 1600z
« on: November 30, 2009, 1617 UTC »
11/30/09, 6925.1 USB
Since 1553z, Outhouse Radio with spoof Christmas songs, one sounded like parody of Black Sabbath or Ozzy song.  Good peaks, lots of fading, S1-S5 over S1 noise.

11/30/09, 6925 USB, 0137z: Heard three tunes, something with banja, a rock version of Frosty the Snowman and a stoner version of another Christmas song.  Just barely audible here in Texas.  No ID heard before off or faded.

Shortwave Broadcast / 9585 AM unid @ 1200z (clandestine?)
« on: November 29, 2009, 1222 UTC »
11/29/09, 9585 kHz AM, 1200 UTC: Potentially interesting unid.  Noticed at 1200z when Australia on both 9580 and 9590 took a deep dive from their usual strong signals.  Nothing listed for this time slot on EiBi.  A possibility listed on clandestineradio.com, Vietnam, New Horizon Radio, aka Chân Tròi Mói, but not for this time slot, usually logged after 1300z on that site.  Unable to receive streaming audio via http://www.radiochantroimoi.com/ to confirm.

Very weak, murky signal, non-English language, sounds vaguely Asian language.  Woman speaking in very calm tones; occasional interludes with pleasant music.

Signal picked up slightly after 1220z, language is reminiscent of Vietnamese.  Music sounds like Sunday worship fare heard on many stations.

Faded to barely audible by 1240z.

North American Shortwave Pirate / WEAK 6925U 1000z
« on: November 29, 2009, 1003 UTC »
11/29/09, 6925 USB, 1002z: Tuned in just to catch last few seconds of unid song and apparently closing ID w/ echo/repeat fx for WEAK Radio.  Good signal.

11/28/09, 6926 AM, seems to be centered around 6926.2 kHz
Since 1913z, hearing moody electronica music
1930z: Same style music, mixed with mashup of 2006 WBNY pirate feud show, "...gay pirate radio..." and "You's trollin'!!!"
1935z: Off or faded out, not even a carrier now.
SINPO - 24332, right at noise level, not quite strong enough to ID station or music.

Via Sony 2010 in AM sync

North American Shortwave Pirate / Radio Ga-Ga 6925U 0300z
« on: November 28, 2009, 0309 UTC »
11/27/09, 6925 USB
0300z: Radio Ga-Ga, songs by Lady Gaga, at bit of Popeye cartoon theme music, Donovan "Mellow Yellow", S&G "Sound of Silence"
0308z: Radio Ga-Ga ID, SSTV, very noisy copy, can make out Radio Ga-Ga logo, sign with words "building and living... alarm"

Tough copy, good signal peaks, lots of fades, intermittent local RFI.

North American Shortwave Pirate / Northwoods Radio 6950U 0233z
« on: November 28, 2009, 0244 UTC »
11/28/09, 6950 USB
0233z: On with loon calls, voice ID for Northwoods Radio, rock music
0243z: JPS ID w/ 2009 show from deer camp
0255z: Narrative, something about "...the heart of the upper peninsula..."

Good signal, lots of fading but not quite to inaudible

North American Shortwave Pirate / Radio GaGa SSTV & music 6925 USB
« on: November 27, 2009, 1408 UTC »
11/27/09, 6925 USB
1355z: Radio Ga-Ga, SSTV of movie "Black Friday" with Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi, "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard", "Radio Waves" Roger Waters with followup Radio KAOS bit.  Phil Collins "Land of Confusion" live.
1413z: Radio Ga-Ga ID
1414z: Queen "Radio Ga Ga" with a little sing-along from RGG op
1421z: Sign-off ID and SSTV w/ RGG logo
1422z: Northwoods Radio fired up just a few moments after RGG sign-off

565
11/27/09, 6925 USB
1255z: Northwoods Radio on with distinctive loon calls for several minutes.
1300z: Northwoods Radio YL voice ID, broadcasting from the Great Lakes
1303z: Instrumental guitar work, reminiscent of Chet Atkins or Les Paul.
1324z: ID, more jazzy guitar instrumentals
1345z: Off after OM voice ID and CW

Also audible on indoor portable.  Very low QRN, but the usual occasional local RFI.

1422z: Northwoods Radio fired up again just a few moments after RGG sign-off.  Sounds like reprise of earlier show of jazzy guitar instrumentals.
1445z: YL voice ID "Northwoods Radio.  Broadcasting (freedom?) from the Great Lakes"
1507z: Closing ID, loon call, CW.

Much weaker the second go-'round, but audible due to low background noise this morning.

North American Shortwave Pirate / Wolverine Radio dream theme 6925 USB
« on: November 26, 2009, 0006 UTC »
11/25/09, 6925 USB
Started around 2355z with songs from Bing Crosby, Patsy Cline (might've been some Jim Reeves in there), Air Supply, Eurythmics, some '90s dance-pop group (Snap?), Marilyn Manson version of Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams", all songs with "dream" in title or lyrics.
0020z: Closing ID and SSTV.  And, yup, I am indeed drinking a cold one while I listen!  Second SSTV of Lon Chaney from "Phantom of the Opera" with Wolverine ID, will post later.

Thanks, Wolverine, these theme shows are very enjoyable!

SINPO - 34322, not quite as strong as usual from Wolverine but top notch audio helps to copy familiar songs.

SSTV, both Scottie 1 mode.  These were followed by more SSTV in Scottie 2, different signal strength, apparently not Wolverine:

North American Shortwave Pirate / WEAK w/ Hendrix deep cut 6925 USB
« on: November 25, 2009, 2204 UTC »
11/25/09, 6925 USB
Between approx 2130-2200z: WEAK Radio w/ "Signs", "Horse With No Name" and a real Hendrix deep cut, "Machine Gun", sounds like from live version from Band of Gypsies New Years Eve at Fillmore album.
2209z: Troggs "Wild Thing" and WWV parody "The Tick"
2219z: Pantera, Nirvana
2229z: WEAK Radio ID, into interesting instrumental cover of the dreaded "Stairway to Heaven" with cool burbling bass line
2247z: Something that sounded like Hole/Courtney Love, Blur, the bass riff from "Superfly"
2254z: Jerky Boys prank phone call
2256z: CW, same bit repeated, but it's all geek to me.

SINPO - 34223, some good peaks, lots of fades to noise level, not bad for pre-gray line propagation.

Shortwave Broadcast / 6890 AM Radio Taiwan in Spanish
« on: November 25, 2009, 0444 UTC »
11/25/09, 6890 AM
0440z: Broadcast already in progress, announcer for Radio Taiwan in Spanish language.  First time I've noticed this particular station on 6890.  However it is listed on the current EiBi sked.  Wondering whether the renewed activity on 6890 has any connection with the recent mess of heterodynes around 6940-6945 kHz?

North American Shortwave Pirate / Outhouse Radio 6925 AM
« on: November 24, 2009, 1926 UTC »
11/24/09 - Heard CCR version of "I Put A Spell On You" around 1845 UTC on 6925 AM, carrier seemed to be around 6924.9.  Faded out after that, not even a carrier.
1913z: Drifted back in with various bits - a little metal, techno, Judas Priest "Breakin' the Law", intro to old WBNY show, James Brown, others.
1916z: Twilight Zone theme... if this is Captain Morgan it's the first time I've heard him during the day.
1918z: Brief bit from Radio Free Speech show.
1925z: Classic Duke Nukem Ventrilo harassment audio.
1929z: Crazy mashup of Ventrilo harassment audio, WBNY and other stuff!
This is sounding kinda like Outhouse.
1932z: Yup, Outhouse Radio ID

North American Shortwave Pirate / WEAK late show 6950 USB
« on: November 24, 2009, 0909 UTC »
11/24/09, 6950 USB
Since 0810z hearing rhythmic music with lots of thumping bass, but mostly buried under heavy local RFI from my own CD burner.  Several ID's audible too.
0900z: CD burner finished running, clearly heard Gin Blossoms "Allison Road"
0925z: Pretenders
0930z: WEAK Radio ID's w/ echo/repeats and e-mail info

Good steady signal through moderate noise (after my CD burner finished cycling).  Good fat audio punch.
