UNID 6985 AM 0230z-0630z

WYFR has been on this freq before, but I doubt this was them or another broadcaster unless they were running some very informal testing overnight.

2/26/11
6985 AM
Since around 0230z, fairly strong AM station playing lots of hit pop/rock music, some Zombies classics and B-52s "Rock Lobster" around 0245z.  No ID heard between songs.
0253z: "Orinoco Flow", suddenly off after what sounded like someone hitting the "skip" function on the mp3 player, heard a bit of Spirit "I Got A Line On You", then suddenly off.
0305z: Popped up again with what I think was Benny Goodman "In The Mood", then suddenly off.
0354z: Back with several Moody Blues songs.  Still some strong peaks but more fading.
0403z: And off again, still no ID.
0420z: Back with "War of the Worlds" program with Richard Burton narrating over music (thx to The Web for that bit of musical trivia!)
Six minute mp3 from War of the Worlds segment.

0550z: Back with more War of the Worlds, Phil Lynott singing.  Signal varying between S1-S9, generally above noise.
20 minute mp3 from WotW.
0615z: Off again.
0620z: Back, Joan Baez "Diamonds and Rust", "The Night They Drove old Dixie Down"
Two minute mp3 Joan Baez
0630z: Cream "Sunshine of Your Love", "White Room" and off again.

Good signal whoever you were, mystery enigmatic pirate guy.  Let's call it SINPO=44333 on an indoor portable with just a whip.  Occasionally peaking to S7+ over S1 noise on the indoor loop.

Heard here with chopping & switching music tracks gone at 0245... no ID given
Most times & frequencies posted are only an approximation.
Wishing the 1980's PopComm was still around.
