6718kHz - What is this???

6718kHz AM(?) UNID very strange noises at 0014z 01/05/2011

What the hell is that? I'm recording what I can catch of it. It spans about 5kHz, from about 6715 to 6719.

Weirdness.

Post that recording that you mentioned, and we might be able to help figure it out.

I agree, please upload a recording. I am curious to see what this may be (Whales? LINCOMPEX?)

This is about 20 minutes into the 1 hour 11 minutes that I recorded. For most of what I recorded, I was receiving in AM and it was severely clipped and distorted when I reviewed it (Sound Forge). This is a clip of the sound after trying to center it in USB at 6718kHz. There's mention of this on the FRN as well. I'm sure someone knows what this wackiness is. I'm just very curious.

It's gotta be someone goofin' around, right? What would make that noise? But it went on another 40 minutes or so after I nearly went mental listening/recording an hour of it. I'd upload the whole thing but it's a big ass MP3 (even in mono) and there's a lot of me scanning back and forth, switching filters in and out, and fiddling with AM and SSB. Maybe it's what's causing birds to fall out of the sky, huh? :P

My three guesses:

1) Decepticons
2) Transporter signal
3) A pirate mind-f*ing us and laughing their heads off at this thread :D

Peace!

If it was some bored-silly pirate, cool. At least ID your silliness so we can move on. And you're probably right. Mind-F-ers.
