North American Shortwave Pirate / Outhouse Radio 6925U
« on: July 22, 2010, 0055 UTC »
I might be wrong on ID, but sounded like Outhouse Radio ID at 0051z.
7/22/10
6925.1 USB
0040-0051z: Booker T & MG's "Green Onions", Collective Soul "Listen", followed by what sounded like computer voice or distorted audio ID for Outhouse Radio.
0056z: Commodores "Brick House", interrupted partway through song.  Suddenly shifted to 6926.7?
0125z: Not sure if still Outhouse, heard what sounded like Hendrix "Three Little Bears", difficult to tune to pitch, seemed to be at different frequencies on both LSB and USB.

Good signal peaks, lots of choppy fades.  Odd condx this evening, very choppy propagation.

Also hearing some QRM above 6925, can't tell if pesques or another station.

7/21/10
6925.2-6926.7 USB (seemed more like sudden shifts, not drifting)
2240-2330z: Sounded like bits from Piratesweek podcast, fellow with British accent talking about Ofcom and FM radio.  Ended with psychedelic sounding instrumental music.

No ID audible, lots of choppy fading and sudden shifts in frequency.

0208z: Radio Ga-Ga ID
0213z: Bowie "Fame"
0217z: John Lennon "Whatever Gets You Through The Night"
0221z: SSTV Scottie 1, Radio Ga-Ga ID and E=MC2, mostly obscured by heavy local static.

7/18/10
6925 USB (mebbe closer to 6924.9)
Since around 2300z, heard some Billy Joel tunes, Captain Walker ID for WLDJ.
0001z: Arlo Guthrie "City of New Orleans", Alan Parsons Project "Eye In The Sky", then off.

Good signal peaks and audio seems fine, lots of fades to barely audible.

Back after pause...
7/19/10
6925 USB
0145z: Bee Gees "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart ", Alley Scooper "Be My Lover", Beach Boys "Good Vibrations", Elton John "Tiny Dancer" (interrupted partway through).

2355z: Only caught a few minutes before wiped out by local RFI. Doobie Brothers "China Grove".

7/16/10
6950 approx
0402z: Immediately after Radio Ronin Shortwave sign-off, Wolverine sign-on with familiar Barenaked Ladies "Testing 1-2-3", some '40s crooner music.
0410z: Jennifer Paige "Crush"
0413z: "Crush On You" The Jets
0415z: Wolverine Radio ID
0415z: Dave Matthews Band "Crush"
0420z: REM "Orange Crush"
0427z: (per DB) Paramore "Crush Crush Crush" - heard of 'em, first time I've heard this
0435z: Garbage "#1 Crush"
0440z: Wolverine ID, SSTV Scottie 1, looks like a nice cold batch of Orange Crush.

SINPO=44233, best signal for awhile from Wolverine, S9 peaks to indoor antenna over S5-S7 static crashes.

Odd signal, same carrier on 6950.6 heard from Ronin, so at first Wolverine was audible on both AM and USB, but not LSB.  Then seemed to shift from 6950.6 to 6950.  Had to use DSP to null out carrier from 6950.6.  Not sure whether Wolverine was using AM, or just riding carrier.  Carrier dropped by 0410z.

0339z: ID w/ e-mail addy, Guns n' Roses "Sweet Child o' Mine"

SINPO=34232, fairly steady carrier, battling heavy QRN static crashes, minor pesque QRM on 6950U.

6925 USB (closer to 6924.9+ but stable)
0254z-0305z: Roger Waters "Radio Waves" from Radio K.A.O.S., Tom Petty "Last DJ", what sounded like live on mic ID, but faded so I couldn't copy what anncr was saying.
0310z: Sounded like another live-on-mic ID for WLDJ, possibly "taking requests", but too much noise and fading to copy clearly.
0326z: Op ID'd as Captain Walker for WLDJ, confirmed live on mic, after Eric Burdon and Animals "House of the Rising Sun"
0330z: Bowie "Starman"
0355z: Live Gregg Allman or Allman Bros "Melissa"
0357z: Captain Walker said he's about to shut down equipment, resolve internet connection problem.

0410z: Tubes "Talk To Ya Later"
0413z: ID, e-mail contact info
0414z: Van Morrison "Brown Eyed Girl"
0440z: Heard some Billy Joel, Badfinger and Crystal getting awfully bossy about sending reception reports.
0447z: Hollies "On A Carousel" (per my request, thanks!), then overlapped by CSN "Southern Cross"
Faded to inaudible after Cars "Moving In Stereo"

Fair peaks, lots of fades to inaudible. Audio sounds good during signal peaks.

Other / UNID carrier 6913
« on: July 12, 2010, 2330 UTC »
7/12/10
6913 kHz
Steady carrier since 2306z, doesn't seem to be a heterodyne from some other station.  Nothing audible.  In the clear because WYFR's Spanish language programming sked on 6915 was temporarily off air.
2320z: WYFR returned on 6915, wiped out 6913 altho' carrier still audible on 6913.
