North American Shortwave Pirate / UNID 6925.5 USB

6/18/10
6925.5 USB
0145z: Was experimenting with another indoor passive loop design and briefly heard a song with "radio, radio, radio" in the lyrics.

Was way down in the mud and completely inaudible on the other antennas. Off or faded out by 0150z, nothing heard since.

0225z: Music just barely audible again on 6925.5 USB for a minute, not enough to ID anything.
0235z: Some sorta Celtic-jig rock kinda instrumental.
0243z: Song with "power, music power" repeated. Google sez: Porno, Time 2 Move
0257z: Porno For Pyros "Pets"
0315z: Still hanging in there, lots of fades

(Gopher Stomp, TX - R30C w/ yet another fugloop abomination)

North American Shortwave Pirate / Pesques vs. Pirates 6925.5 USB
« on: June 15, 2010, 0520 UTC »
6/15/10
0150z: Sounds like turf tussle on 6925.5 USB. Spanish pesques whistling and chattering almost non-stop during evenings recently, wiping out most pirate signals here in Gopher Stomp. But someone is firing back with chanting music, and wild guitar instruments riffs, much stronger signal than pesques. Drifting/shifting slightly between 6925.4-6925.6. Can still hear pesque jibber jabber underneath.
0204z: Pesques ain't giving up yet, still chattering underneath louder rock instrumentals.
0220z: More wailing, distorted guitar riffs, a little Hendrix, a little Deep Purple, etc., but Spanish QSO still audible underneath.

1140z: Happy birthday songs to someone from Radio Ga-Ga, including Beatles birthday song.
1146z: "Celebrate" Kool & the Gang, with RGG urging "Drill, baby, drill" over music. Not sure I wanna know what's going on up there.
1150z: Earth, Wind & Chipmunks
1153z: SSTV, no copy, wiped out by sudden burst of local RFI.

Fair peaks, low noise, lots of slow fades.

6/2/10
6925.1 or .2 AM
0440z: Spanish male vocals, not sure if style would be called salsa or something else.
0445z: Suddenly off or completely faded out here.

Outdoors with barefoot Sony 2010 in AM sync.  Fair signal with lots of fading, usual springtime static crashes.  Very good audio, nice sound in the rhythmic music. (Gopher Stomp, TX)

Update: E-mail from WEAK Radio indicated this was WEAK testing in AM mode.  Said they went off air right at 0445z.  Later broadcast of Latin music was probably someone else.

North American Shortwave Pirate / Outhouse Radio 6855 AM
« on: June 01, 2010, 1231 UTC »
6/1/10, 6855 AM
0135z: Just got home in time to catch Outhouse op talking and Hendrix "Star Spangled Banner" on 6855 AM. Fair signal on the indoor Sony 2010 in AM sync.
0140z: Some funky piano. Got Sony 2010 in AM sync and Palstar R30C in LSB, rare instance of perfect matching pitch with keyboards.
0143z: Some version of "Battle of New Orleans"
0155z: That yodeling song that makes Martian heads explode.
0212z: "Man of Constant Sorrow" - sudden big signal jump, smug layer over Dallas must've just come in.
0215z: SSTV, no copy, signal faded again.

Received eQSL from Outhouse Radio later that night confirming Memorial Day show.

Shortwave Broadcast / 6185 AM oddities
« on: May 29, 2010, 0945 UTC »
5/29/10
6185 kHz AM
0940z: Assuming this is Radio Amazonas, logged here before on this freq.  For past half hour hearing some odd, random vocalizations, sing-song nonsense, counting, repetitive chanting.  A bit of a departure from the usual jazz and other structured programming heard here before.
1002z: At top of hour, switched to more conventional programming, Spanish ID as Mexican station, presumably XEPPM Radio Educación.  Whatever it was between 0900-1000z, it was... interesting.

Rebroadcast of William Cooper's "Hour of the Time", presumably from the 1990s.  Better than average signal for 5110 to my area.

Switched to relay of Ragnar's Pirates Week show around 0210z.  Sounds like an old show from 2008, maybe 2009, mention of a question I asked back then about ESD protection with an outdoor magnet wire antenna.  I've since switched to an indoor passive loop.  Still good signal.
0230z: Seems to have switched from old Pirates Week show to most recent version of podcast, hearing audio clips and logs for most recent May 2010 shows.

I caught Allan Weiner's show the other night mentioning these HOTT shows might be relayed on the Area 51 segment.  Good to hear.  I was a regular listener of Cooper's show, even subscribed to his newspaper Veritas, bought and read Behold a Pale Horse.  He could be irascible and uncompromising but he had a certain genius for synthesizing seemingly disparate, complex issues - ranging from politics to spirituality - in a way that few others can.  Alex Jones tries but just can't quite match Cooper's genius for synthesis.

Only SSTV at 1254z was audible here on 6925 USB.  Noisy copy but could make out WLDJ logo.

1307z: Music barely audible, not sure if WLDJ, woman singer, can't ID.

SINPO=22311, only occasionally audible, lotta QRM from Spanish pesque jibber jabber on 6925.5U

North American Shortwave Pirate / Psycho Killer 6925U
« on: May 15, 2010, 1412 UTC »
5/15/10
6925 USB
0512-0530z: Hearing what sounded like several versions of "Psycho Killer", including original Talking Heads version. Just barely audible through heavy local t-storm crashes and RFI.

Note regarding erratic propagation conditions: An AM carrier appeared around 6925.4 a few minutes after the 6925 USB station started with "Psycho Killer".  But there was no deliberate QRM.  I chatted with both ops via IRC and e-mail - both had checked the frequency and neither heard the other.  DeltaCharlie, in NC, heard the AM station while I heard only the USB station here in Texas.  As far as I can tell, DeltaCharlie didn't hear the USB station.  Neither did EvilElvis in Disgraceland, and he usually gets much better reception than I do.  In terms of shortwave propagation theory, we're not that far apart, but are experiencing very different conditions in reality.

Just wanted to note this as an example of why folks shouldn't jump to erroneous conclusions about QRM and accuse other ops of deliberately interfering.  With propagation conditions being so unpredictable now, it's almost always unintentional.  And in this case, when the USB op saw DeltaCharlie's log for the AM station, he went QRT even tho' he'd been on frequency first by a few minutes.

5/13/10
6305 kHz AM
1105z: Fairly steady carrier, moderate strength, no audio heard.
1110z: Off.
Same noted by DXer in WA (per wunclub).  Saharaoui used to be here, haven't heard them on this freq since late 2008 or early 2009 tho'.  Various European pirates have been logged here, but I rarely here any Euros other than Mystery Radio here in Texas.

0400-0412z: Queen "Radio Ga Ga", another song I couldn't ID, and WLDJ "Voice of the Last DJ" ID, Genesis "Abacab"
0424z: SSTV, no copy here.

Fair signal peaks, mostly buried in heavy local noise.
