General Radio Discussion / Re: CHU 6660 kHz

Okay, I was curious. I am about 1000 miles from the CHU transmitter site.

There are couple of intermittent utes or similar on frequency, but sure enough, the time interval pips are there as well as I type this reply. I have listened long enough to hear multiple minute interval beeps, too.

Not even using a SDR here. Just my Kenwood R-2000 and the 31' vertical at the moment.

Sounded like a news or talk format, but it was too brief for any clues. Any ideas?

The schedule sites I usually search are not showing anything, even if it was maybe a previous hour program running overtime. It was there for a couple of minutes, the it dropped well into the noise floor or perhaps off air.

News talk and similar, though I would be hard pressed to try listening to it for actual content. The signal it hovering well below S1 and into the noise floor, so a rough copy. This BBC broadcast from Oman is reportedly only 10KW and subject to jamming. SINPO 15331.

News talk format. It is there, but its 300KW signal is under S1 and almost in the noise floor here tonight. SINPO 15332 trending 15321 via the 31' vertical. The current local estimated MUF has dropped further to 11MHz.

RFA, or CNR jamming it, on 11820 at 0247z. Splattering from Radio Brasil Central on 11815 does not help, either.

Chanting and maybe talk. It is a rough copy due to a weak signal right above the noise floor and bordering on a local estimated MUF of 12MHz. SINPO 15331 via the 31' vertical.

Music format. SINPO 35333 via the 31' vertical. Some noise and moderate fading, which is not surprising considering the local estimated MUF is ~12MHz and likely dropping.

I know greyline, but still, the MUF here has been falling *quick* in recent nights. Earlier tonight I was listening easily to 16m broadcasts from Asia to way after dark, but now even Cuba on 13460 in the 22m band is a rough copy as the local estimated MUF is down already to 12MHz. I suspect it will drop towards or into single-digit MHz in another hour to two.


Down to 11MHz here. Part of NA is down in to single digits.


Getting there. Floating around 10-11MHz. Part of interior NA is down to 8MHz.

Interview and discussion. Variable copy due to weak signal and fading. SINPO 25222.

My local estimated MUF has dropped well below the 19m band now. Maybe the MUF will stay at least in double-digit MHz tonight, but I am not really counting on it.

Someone might have to help me with this one. Music with a modern country or folk like sound into talk, then it took a huge nosedive into the noise floor for the most part. I do get an occasional second or so bump above the floor with what sounds like maybe a few words in French.

Nothing new, but logging it since I am just spinning the VFO right now. China using a likely ridiculous level of power to jam SOH on 14900, 14920, 14980, 15360, etc. Sounds like CNR.

It is a quite weak and fading copy, especially compared to the decent CNR broadcasts from the previous hour. I have some 16m conditions into eastern Asia right now, so I am going to say *maybe* RFA. SINPO 15411 via the 31' vertical and assuming it is not CNR or similar jamming.

Digital CNR on 17770, too, though I am using my Kenwood R-2000 so no decodes.
