On January 20, Radio 538 made a world premiere between 6 pm and 9 pm. The Dutch private station was able to broadcast live from the submarine "Walross". The submarine built in Rotterdam and commissioned in 1992 is almost 70 meters long, 8 meters wide and has a total height of 7 meters.
For the "Frank en Vrijdagshow" a radiostudio was improvised after months of planning. At the marina Den Helder started the unusual action in the best weather conditions. Presenter Frank Dane and his two sidekicks Jelte van der Goot and "Hauspianist" Albert van Dijk were accompanied by the DJ duo Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano.
The stage fright during "The Diving Dutch" was mixed with comparisons for the first time sex and the first flying experience. Radio 538 could not sink any further, said one.
For the submarine commander Lieutenant Berend van de Kraats, officer Alex Kranenburg and her husband, the prominent visit was also a special experience. According to the report, after half-hour's delay, "We wrote history - it was fantastic!"
