This myth is really annoying. Many, many SOH frequencies are not jammed and I hear them regularly here. If it’s on an offset frequency, it’s SOH. Their programming is also easily distinguished from CRI. Trust me, try tuning in on 6900 or 6970 and you will hear them.
It's not much of a myth. Most of what Paul says is verifiably true. That said, this particular report could be a genuine copy given the QTH of both receivers. But the details are lacking. Ron from California copies it regularly but he also provided details that allow us to know that he really copied SOH, such as station ID (which he knows in Mandarin) and the lack of TOTH time pips, which CNR1 (not CRI - they use CNR1 to jam) always has. This one merits additional questioning.
BTW, if there's anything to be annoyed with, it's the posting of clandestine stations like SOH under the regular shortwave broadcast station board. It happens a lot.
