For EYES ONLY Do you have a need to know?

The following history relative to beacons
will be found here.  Seamus has posted a block of questions
regarding the activity or inactivity of certain PHFERs.

A is still active and runs 20-30 watts output.
The operator is very very secerative

FL is no longer active but was heard very well out west during its time on the air.

WW stands for Wild West  its xtal was used initially on the first CO beacon.  Currently
WW is the lowest power beacon in the 4 mc band at 100-200MW and its antenna is
a center loaded 5 ft whip with a top hat.

W is refereed to as (The Wind Beacon) not Windy...The dits after the ID represent Wind Speed
The operator is very very secretive about his identity.

WA ran a short time it was in the state of Washington and only had an output of 80Mw into a Vee antenna. It was not copied by many listeners. It is no longer active.

The Pike Honker is no longer active its 5678 Xtal has been given to a gentleman in Phoenix who
is building up a beacon for it.  The Pike Honker was developed to sound like the the 4096 4 sec dasher.

FL 6549.3 came to a Tragic End.  It was heard well into Colorado. It was one of my favorite beacon.

S freq. is 8000 Khz and is deep into the SW desert of Arizona.  It is solar only no battery. It was one
of the initial Desert beacon. The operator has been very supportive of the HFBS keeping us in transistors
and other components.

Pike Jr is not active.

W 8188 was heard all over the United States.  That xtal has been given to the operator of TS 8189.5Khz in Northern Colorado. It is active as TS 24/7 and is heard well on the East and West coast.

FOX will be a full time beacon out of California on 10236.5khz when the wx permits operator to get to the antenna site.

Echo operated on the 10236.5 and was a favorite beacon of mine to listen to.  Echo came to the same tragic end as FL.

Sputnick is no longer active...it was only heard the first two evenings out here in Colorado and was in
the state of Va.  The operator had personal commitments that were heavy.  However, it is possible that
some day Sputnick will once again be heard.

D/V is a experimental beacon only 12889.3Khz out of FL....

I hope this helps.

WOW! Great history and status update!  ;D
Now I can see where the comments about beacons
that are no longer operational actually come from.

This info will be added to my personal beacon stat file!

Neat bit of heritage history!
Thanks a lot!

Yes, thanks indeed!

This (and the other recent posts) clears up a lot of questions I had about my list.  Tons of good information there.
