American CB radio band plan.  This is the same band plan used by most countries worldwide, including all of North America, South America, Europe, the UK, Australia and numerous other locations.

-
US regulations limit RF output power to 4 watts in FM mode, 4 watts AM carrier power and 12 watts SSB PEP (peak power).  4w AM carrier power equates to 16 watts peak power (PEP) at 100% modulation.

US regulations permit use of AM, FM and SSB voice modes.  AM mode (A3E) must be full carrier double side band with a maximum bandwidth of 8 kHz.  FM mode (F3E) is limited to 8 kHz bandwidth.  SSB mode may be USB or LSB.  Regular suppressed-carrier SSB (J3E) as well as reduced-carrier SSB (R3E) and full-carrier SSB (H3E) are all permitted, with a maximum bandwidth of 4 kHz.

Bandwidth limits are 8 kHz for AM mode (8K00A3E), 8 kHz for FM (8K00F3E), and 4 kHz for SSB. SSB with carrier (4K00H3E), SSB with reduced carrier (4K00R3E), and true SSB without carrier (4K00J3E) are allowed. Use of selective calling systems, including tone-based selective calling such as DTMF, ANI, etc. as well as CTCSS tone squelch (PL) and DCS coded squelch (DPL) are permitted.

The original 23 channel CB allocation is backward-compatible with the current 40 channel band plan. 23 channel CB radios are still legal.  There are six remote control radio service (RCRS) or Class C CB data link, telemetry, remote control, wireless control, paging and model control channels.  Five of them are exclusively allocated for that purpose. 27.255MHz, which is also CB radio channel 23, is shared with the RCRS service and the CB service.  27.255 MHz is used for high power data links, paging and other similar services.    The RCRS data only channels are used for voice communications (usually illegally) as well.

FCC CB regulations require that all CB equipment has the capability to operate in AM mode as the "default mode".  In Europe, FM is the "default mode".

-
The CE (CEPT) Europe-wide standard 27 MHz band CB radio regulations permit FM voice mode only (4 watt power limit). EU mode is identical, except AM and SSB are also allowed (same requirements as the US FCC CB band).

UK FM 27/81 CB Band Plan UK Only Allocation, FM mode only
-

-
The UK has 80 CB radio channels available for legal use.

-

-
The "27/81" band (the original UK FM CB radio allocation) is a 40 channel CB allocation, NFM mode only, 10 kHz channel spacing, with all channel frequencies purposely offset 1.25 kHz.  The 27/81 CB radio regulations originally required all equipment to have a high/low power switch (often called a -10dB switch or a 4w/0.4w switch), to allow the operator to reduce transmit power from the 4 watt legal maximum to 0.4 watt or 400mW.  This is no longer a requirement, although there is still a large installed base of original 27/81 specification equipment in use in the UK.    The UK FM 27/81 band does not skip channels like the regular mid band 40 channel legal CB allocation, nor does it feature the out-of-order channel sequence for channels 23, 24 and 25.  Channel plan is a straight 10 kHz step channel plan the whole way through.

-

-
The standard EU 40 channel "mid band" or "FCC band" is also available in the UK.  AM, FM and SSB modes are permitted on the EU standard (CEPT band, FCC band, mid band, American CB band, etc.).  See the band plan above.

-

-
UK FM CB 27/81 27.60125 MHz - 27.99125 MHz.  Regulations actually call this allocation 27.59625 MHz to 27.99625 MHz but most sources simply list 27.6 MHz to 28 MHz or 27.600 MHz to 27.995 MHz if they don't go with 27.60125 - 27.99125 MHz or something similar like 27.601 MHz FM - 27.991 MHz FM.

These channels are authorized in several other countries in Europe in addition to Germany.  Channels 1-40 are identical to the standard EU 40 mid band 40 CB channels US CB radio channels CE / CEPT mid band channels, etc.  On channels 1-40, AM, FM and SSB voice are allowed.  Digital modes such as AX.25 packet, ROS, PSK31, FT8 and various others are allowed on channels specified for this use by German law.

Standard CB radio channels

US FCC 40 legal CB channels / EU CB channels / CEPT / mid band FM CB radio / Export Radio / Freeband CB Radio - Band D (or "Band C" in Russia).

AM and FM are used worldwide. AM is the standard or "default" mode in the United States, Canada and the rest of North America, as well as Central and South America, Australia and a handful of other locations. In Europe, FM is the standard or "default" mode. SSB is used worldwide and is legal nearly everywhere AM and FM are allowed.
