Thailand and Bangladesh only. VHF 245MHz VHF 245 MHz CB license free two-way radio service. Handheld walkie talkie radios and mobile vehicle car radios are very popular and sold by all major land mobile radio manufacturers and vendors, professional two-way radio brands including Icom, Motorola, Baofeng, TYT, Hytera, Tait, AnyTone, Kenwood, Alinco, Yaesu and Vertex Standard as well as numerous re-brands. Both 80 and 160 channel versions must have red cases.
Radios must have red cases per Thai law.
In 2020 the regulations were updated and the band was expanded from 80 channels to 160 channels - band limit expanded 1 MHz from 245.9875 MHz to 246.9875 MHz. 80 channel equipment remains legal but 160 channel equipment is being aggressively marketed and sold by Alinco, Spender and other major radio communications equipment companies. Radios must continue to have a red case. Many radios are sold for the 222-225 MHz amateur band but are easily modified to cover 220-260 MHz or 220-270 MHz.
Also known as "245 VHF" "245 CB" "CB 245" or other similar names. 245 MHz VHF band, FM voice. Favorable propagation characteristics, comparable to the 1.25 meter ham radio band at 220 MHz / 222 MHz - 225 MHz.
Technical Specifications
160 channels - straight channel numbering sequence.
245-246.9875 MHz, 245.0000 MHz to 246.9875 MHz. 245 MHz - 247 MHz.
CTCSS, DCS and other selective calling or squelch systems are legal and heavily used. Narrow band FM mode (narrow mode, 12.5 kHz channel bandwidth - known as “12K” or 12K5F3E or 11K3F3E / 11K2F3E / 11K0F3E emission and other slightly more narrow bandwidth FM emissions such as 9K10F3E, 8K50F3E, 6K00F3E etc.
12.5 kHz channel steps. 10 watt RF output power limit. No limit on antenna gain. Mobile antennas and base station fixed station antennas are widely used.
High gain mobile antennas are very popular, similar to the 477 MHz UHF CB services in Australia, New Zealand, etc.
Heavily used by taxi companies, ride share drivers, delivery services, hobbyists, security companies, bars, restaurants, general business users, trucking companies, etc. Mobile radios and handheld radios are very popular. Estimates of users above one million, especially in larger urban areas. According to reports, 27 MHz HF CB and 78 MHz VHF CB are niche services and 245 MHz VHF CB is by far the most commonly used personal radio service in Thailand and neighboring areas.
Thailand apparently has 26-27 MHz CB - popular with fishing fleets, freebanders, ham operators and DXers, a mid-band VHF 78 MHz band service from 78.0000 MHz to 78.9875 MHz (12.5 kHz steps, 10 watt power limit and 78 MHz CB radios must be yellow) as well.
The 245 MHz - 247 MHz band is also allowed in Bangladesh, with the same band plan, power limits and other technical specifications.
