The Kenwood TS-590 is an amateur transceiver produced by Kenwood starting in 2010. It is currently one of the two primary receivers used by Beerus Maximus. The TS-590 utilizes an IF-DSP architecture for excellent receive performance. It can be easily modified for transmission outside the amateur bands by the removal of a single surface mount (SMD) resistor. It can accept audio input via USB, and can transmit 100-3000 Hz flat SSB audio, making it one of the higher fidelity transceiver options for SSB.

The nearest current market competitor to the TS-590 might be the Icom IC-7410. The TS-590 might be a better option for a pirate tranmitter, as it is much easier to modify for extended TX than the Icom.
