Kevin Kirk Trummel was an extremely active individual in the pirate radio community. He operated several pirate radio stations, including Radio Doomsday and Radio Airplane, which was the target of an FCC bust. He was instrumental in organizing the move from 7415 kHz to 6955 kHz in 1994, when 7415 kHz became unusable.

Kirk, along with John Cruzan, started the Free Radio Network or FRN in 1993 as a BBS. It now operates as a website, and is the leading source for information on pirate radio in the USA.

Kirk passed away in 2001 from cancer, at the age of 38.
