La Voz del Campesino was a low-power broadcast station operating out of Peru. It was often heard on or near 6956 AM in the early to mid-00s in the eastern USA; program material was usually Andes-type music. The station was a major irritant to pirate listeners, as 6955 at the time was probably the most popular pirate frequency. Even if its audio could not be heard, the heterodyne from La Voz del Campesino's carrier could cause major interference to pirates on 6955; this was probably part of the reason that pirate operations began to shift to 6925 and lower frequencies. This station was often referred to in pirate circles as simply "The Peruvian".
