Noise Reduction refers to the process of reducing the influence of various kinds of noise on the readability of a signal. Usually this is noise that is referred to as "static", although there are a variety of sources that can produce "static"-type noise in a radio signal. Noise-reduction in modern radios is often implemented using Digital Signal Processing; this processing attempts to differentiate between the noise, and the actual transmitted signal. The noise component of the signal is reduced, and, hopefully, the remaining signal is easier to understand.
