Shortwave Broadcast Stations, SWBC or HFBC are allocated several bands for their transmissions:

Shortwave broadcasters will often use frequencies just above or just below these frequencies as well. Frequency spacing is 5 kHz. Some frequencies, especially at/near the band edges, are used by fixed and mobile stations. the 6200 kHz to 6295 kHz portion of 49 meters, for example, is actually part of the 6 MHz HF marine band. Utility stations, maritime mobile and pescadores or HF freebanders can also be heard in clear portions of these bands. The 41 meter band is shared with amateur radio use (to varying degrees depending on which ITU region you're in).
