UNID is the name used to refer to unidentified or unidentifiable stations. It is a shortened version of Unidentified. A station may be UNID for a variety of reasons, including:

1. No identification was given at any point during the broadcast

2. Nobody heard the broadcast with a clear enough signal to understand the identification

3. The identification was in a language the listener is not familiar with

A large amount of North American shortwave pirate broadcast remain UNID. Of 268 North American pirate broadcasts made in November 2022, 92 were UNID. Most pirates in Europe (both on shortwave and mediumwave) identify, few broadcasts remain UNID.
