Programming
As of February 2026, WBCQ sells airtime for $50 per hour, resulting in the station having a variety of programs.
WBCQ is known for its free-speech attitude--Weiner does not censor programs in any way unless it "directly advocates harming other human beings based on their race, creed, or national origin." This has resulted in WBCQ playing host to some, shall we say, interesting programs.
WBCQ operates on four frequencies, one of which is currently inactive:
- 5130 kHz is advertised as a frequency for pirates who want to avoid a fine, and is sold for $25 per hour (minimum 2 hours). It is also the present-day home of Radio New York International.
- 6160 kHz is, relative to the other frequencies, lightly used, with its main program as of 2019---the Hal Turner Show---having been pulled off.
- 7490 kHz is the station's main frequency, hosting a variety of programs including Brother Stair's Overcome Ministry.
- 9330 kHz was the home of World's Last Chance, a Christian evangelist flat-Earth group.
World's Last Chance paid for---and Weiner built---a 500 kW antenna for their broadcasts, which makes WBCQ one of the most powerful privately owned shortwave stations on Earth. However, the organization went bankrupt in 2026, leaving the antenna dormant and ending---for now---WBCQ's 9330 kHz broadcasts. The antenna is currently available for lease.
History
Allan Weiner has a long association with pirate radio stations and pirate operators, having been one himself for some time. He operated the infamous Radio Newyork International in 1987, winding up in court as a result. In 1998, Weiner received a license from the FCC for his own official station: WBCQ, or Weiner Broadcasting Company Q.
Originally, WBCQ broadcast on 7415 kHz, but was forced to vacate on October 24, 2011 by the FCC to make way for a Civil Air Patrol fixed HF communications system on 7416 kHz (CAP "Net 6").
