WRNO
From HFUnderground
WRNO (We're Radio New Orleans) is a Christian shortwave station in Metairie, Louisiana.
The station began broadcasting on February 18, 1982 and was the first private shortwave station to be established in several years. During the 1980s, it operated from noon to midnight (18:00-06:00 UTC) as a rock station before starting to simulcast sister station WRNO-FM (also a rock station).
In the early 1990s, WRNO started leasing airtime to religious and political commentators (including Rush Limbaugh) before being forced off the air for several years due to a damaged transmitter.
In 2001, the station was bought by Dr. Robert Mawire of Good News World Outreach, a religious broadcaster, with the goal of broadcasting to areas where Christian materials are limited or restricted. However, the antenna was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The station returned to the air on 7505 kHz in 2008, but was offline for all of 2011 due to the need for repairs.
Today, WRNO broadcasts Christian programs on 7505 kHz from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM (02:00-05:00 UTC).
