Telemetry is the automatic measurement and wireless transmission of data from remote sources. In general, telemetry works in the following way: Sensors at the source measure either electrical data, such as voltage and current, or physical data, such as temperature and pressure.

That data is then transmitted via digital radio modes to a receive location. It may be a simple as on-off keying (OOK, another way of saying CW), FSK, PSK, MFSK or more complex digital modes. Telemetry is generally classed within the much larger signal identification category of "data" or "digital modes". Telemetry signals are found across the entire RF spectrum, including MF, HF, VHF, UHF and higher.
