409 MHz Public Radio Service

Public Radio Service - China Only, PRS or PRS409. This is the "409" referred to in many China based Chinese radio vendors, they are referring to the Chinese version of the FRS/PMR446 type UHF walkie talkie radio service.

409 MHz band - China, Hong Kong, etc. etc. 409.750 MHz to 409.9875 MHz.

409 MHz license free radio service, walkie-talkies Chinese license free. 0.5 watt / 500 milliwatt maximum power, 12.5 kHz channel steps, 20 channels total. Narrow band FM voice only. Maximum deviation 2.5 kHz - 10K0F3E emission (10 kHz bandwidth). Similar in scope to the 462 MHz-467 MHz FRS services, the 446 MHz PMR446 service and the 477 MHz UHF CB service.

Consumer-grade walkie-talkies are often available as "three band" versions - a 22 channel 462 MHz/467 MHz FRS version, a 16 channel PMR446 version and a 20 channel PRS409 version. Some are available as four band versions, PRS409, FRS, PMR446 and a 40 channel/77 channel/80 channel UHF CB version.
